Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Seattle based pop-rock band Shoreline Drive is on the verge of breaking out with their new EP, Chasing Sunsets, coming out later this year. Staff photographer, Rachael Dowd, caught up with Shoreline Drive’s front man, Devin Damitio, to talk about the new album release and what has influenced Shoreline Drive to be the band it is today.

How did Shoreline Drive get started?
The band actually got started when I met Skylar, the drummer, and we started an 80’s rock cover band. He used to always wear this Angels and Airwaves shirt whenever we got together to practice. I was like “Hey! I like Blink” and he liked Blink 182 too, it was basically the factor that made us decide to start an actual band together.
So there is a Shoreline Drive album in the works, what can you tell us about it?
I can tell you it’s called Chasing Sunsets. It’s going to have seven songs on it and we plan on releasing it in about a month or so, we are just waiting for some funds to do it.
What is your favorite song you have recorded so far?
I think it would definitely have to be the slow song from the new record. It’s our ballad and lyrically, it really means a lot to me personally. We also have Colleen from the band “The Material” featured on the song and she really did an awesome job on it. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
What is your favorite song to play live?
It would definitely have to be our latest single “Superhero (Save You)”. You can buy it on ITunes right now and it’s just awesome to see the crowd’s reaction to it and people are learning the words, it means a lot.
If you could tour with any band right now, who would it be?
It would probably be All Time Low because they are such fun guys and I think our bands mesh really well together because we share a similar sound when it comes to our music. Those guys always put on such a good show, too.
What is something you wish you could change about the music industry?
I wish people would come out to shows more and support live music. These days, people just watch bands perform on YouTube and think it’s the same thing, it’s really not.
Describe Shoreline Drive in three words:
Hair, sexy, dreezy.
What bands have influenced Shoreline Drive?
One that always has is All Time Low especially on their new record, Dirty Work. The Maine and Blink 182 are others because I love those bands. I’ve been listening to a lot of dance-pop music these days and I think it really shows on the record, I’ve been listening to a lot of Lady Gaga lately. I always keep track of the Top 40 charts because our new record kind of focuses on the pop-rock sound.
Where do you hope to see Shoreline Drive in a year?
I will hopefully be working and writing on the next record and I really hope to be touring.
Is there anything in particular that you like about the Seattle music scene?
Seattle has such a tight-knit music community. I can go to the same concerts and perform shows and see the same people every time I go. Everyone for the most part is really nice, friendly and supportive. It’s a great environment to be around.
What about you is shameless?
I am so bad with these types of questions - I really like The Notebook and am not ashamed of that. I love that movie.
What is something you want everyone to know about Shoreline Drive?
We are just a young group of kids trying to do what our favorite bands are doing, but better. We are a solid pop band and are just doing what we love.
What song should people go check out?
People should definitely go and listen to our newest single “Superhero (Save You)”. It’s up on ITunes and on our Facebook page, everyone should go check it out!
